Canada: International trade surplus widens to C$3.2 billion in June
- Canada posted a larger-than-expected international trade surplus in June.
- USD/CAD stays in the negative territory near 1.2500.
Canada's merchandise trade surplus with the world widened to C$3.2 billion in June after posting a deficit of C$1.58 billion in May, the monthly data published by Statistics Canada revealed on Thursday. This reading came in better than the analysts' estimate for a deficit of C$0.68 billion.
"Total exports reached a record C$53.8 billion in June, up 8.7% or C$4.3 billion compared with the previous month," the publication further read. "Total imports decreased 1.0% in June to C$50.5 billion. Imports were down in 7 of the 11 product sections."
Market reaction
The USD/CAD pair edged slightly lower after this report and was last seen losing 0.26% on the day at 1.2504.
